Rainy Day Means Playdough

It was a long rainy day yesterday, so I decided to make some play dough for my son Noah, in his favorite color(blue)! As far as homemade children's entertainment goes, this is on the top of my list. They can do so much with it and will continue to play with it their whole lives(come on who doesn't still love play dough??) To make the play dough I just put the following ingredients in a nonstick pot and heat it over about medium heat. I usually start with the liquid then add the dry in. Stir constantly with a spatula until it becomes pliable.

Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon oil
1 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 Tablespoons cream of tartar food coloring(optional)

I found this cute little rolling pin on amazon last year around Christmas time and Noah really seems to love it. He doesn't quite have the technique down so I helped him out a bit. He plays with the cookie cutters for about 30 minutes then decided the dough made a good track for his cars! He took a break after about an hour but when I went to put the dough away he ran over and played with it for another 30 min. In the end I wasn't able to put it away for about 2 hours! All in all I'd say this qualifies as great entertainment and good opportunity for mommy to get some things done around here... or just play along... moms need to play too right?

  2. I'm glad my post was timely for you! :) Seriously SO easy to make too! And if it dried out just get it a little wet and knead it for a bit, goes right back to normal.
